Garmin Multi‑Sport UI

Overview

This UX project focuses on solving a major point in Garmin’s multi-sport tracking experience: the inability to resume a previous workout after starting a new one. Inspired by both user research and personal experience, the project introduces a new "Resume Previous Activity" flow designed to keep workouts flexible, continuous, and frustration-free.

Problem

Garmin’s current system forces users to end one workout before starting another, breaking the continuity needed for multi-sport users and outdoor athletes. For example, if someone switches from biking to running and later wants to resume biking, there’s no option to reopen the original session. As a result, workout data becomes fragmented across multiple files, creating confusion—especially during high-effort transitions when users don’t have time to navigate menus or troubleshoot tracking.

Final Designs

The updated design makes switching between activities smoother and more consistent. Features like ‘Pause & Switch’ and ‘Resume Previous’ appear right when they’re needed, cutting down on extra taps and reducing mental load during workouts. Clear icons and layout make it easy to see which activity is active and which ones are paused.
